Research

The empirical research to date has revolved around three thematic areas: organisational, administrative and civil society issues in educational science. The following research projects have been funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), German federal and state ministries, Non-profit organisations and non-statutory welfare organisations.

Organisational issues:

  • Exit, Voice, Loyalty: institutional      membership in Non-profit organisations (Diakonie Mitteldeutschland)
  • A qualitative analysis of the potential for      advancement of corporate social responsibility (CSR) in small and       medium-sized businesses (SMEs) in the German state of Saxony-Anhalt
  • Reconciling market forces and the requirement to      supply basic needs in the energy business: a comparative study of      Germany and the UK
  • CSR in SMEs: how small and medium-sized      businesses in the German state of Saxony-Anhalt support social and      environmental causes
  • Volunteering in non-statutory welfare      organisations: envisioning ways forward; identifying potential; managing      framework parameters;    operationalising strategies
  • The relationship between education and the economy:      an exemplary case study of cooperation between schools and businesses
  • Professionalisation and organisational      development in consumer debt advisory services
  • The effect and      impact of volunteer centres in      Germany
  • CSR activities in businesses in Germany
  • Analysis  of      programmes for the promotion of civil society engagement and voluntary      activities run by the PARITÄT foundation between 2006 and 2008
  • Societal engagement of businesses in central           Germany
  • Potential for voluntary involvement in the      services and institutions run by member organisations of the Paritätischer      Wohlfahrtsverband Berlin
  • Empirical organisational analysis of the adult       education organisation of the Protestant Church in the former Church      Province of Saxony
  • CSR and societal engagement of businesses in the      United States
  • Transformation of      intermediary organisations in the ‘new’ German federal states (former GDR)

Administrative issues:

  • Deeds of trust in Berlin’s welfare sector
  • Societal participation of children and young      people in the German state of Saxony-Anhalt
  • New public management instruments (Jugendpauschale)      as tools for strategic management in children’s and young people’s      services in the German state of Saxony-Anhalt
  • Required organisational and institutional      frameworks for regional economic policy in the German state of North      Rhine-Westphalia

Civil society issues:
