Welcome event for for students from 3rd semester in BA Educational Science 180 CP and 90 CP
Tuesday, October 8th, 2024 from 14:00 p.m. in the German Hall
Our Bachelor of Arts in Educational Science, with a value of 180 ECTS credit points (CP), provides a thorough grounding in general education studies, encompassing the history and theory of education and its socio-cultural contexts. Our graduates leave us with the capacity to employ professional pedagogical competencies in social work, youth and community education/social pedagogy, adult and continuing education and, secondarily, in rehabilitation education. To this end, the broad-based course explores fundamental aspects of the theories, institutions and settings associated with educational and pedagogical activities in these professional fields.
Our students become competent in key principles relating to educational and pedagogical issues, approaches to educational thinking, and research methods in the field. They learn to identify, analyse and independently tackle situations and issues from pedagogical practice on the basis of the knowledge and skills attained in their academic study. A mandatory internship, framed by reflection on students’ experiences guided by professional principles, delivers insights into day-to-day realities of relevant areas of work.
We hold our seminars and classes on the Faculty of Philosophy III campus (Franckesche Stiftungen), which is also the location of the Library for Educational Sciences „Franckeplatz“ and has its own student canteen. The University’s other humanities and social science departments and its central facilities are a short distance away.
As well as gaining a qualification for a professional career in the field of education and social work , successful BA graduates are eligible to apply for a place on a Master’s degree course in educational science, which will enable them to advance their knowledge in a specific area or areas of the field.
