Semester Dates and Orientation Sessions

Winter Semester 2026/27 - Dates

Start of the lecture period: Monday, 12 October 2026
End of the lecture period: Saturday, 6 February 2027

No regular classes will be held on the two official orientation days, 12 and 13 October 2026, or on public holidays in Saxony-Anhalt.

Due to the university's orientation days, the Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy III has declared 12 and 13 October 2026 as Dies Academicus. Regular classes will therefore begin on Wednesday, 14 October 2026.

Orientation Sessions – Bachelor's and Master´s Programmes in Educational Science (180/90 CP)

Monday, 12 October 2026

• 14:00–16:00: Orientation session for first-semester students in the Master's programme in Educational Science, Deutscher Saal (Building 7)

Tuesday, 13 October 2026

• 09:00–10:00: Welcome session for first-semester students of the Faculty of Philosophy III, Freylinghausen Hall (Building 1)
• 10:00–12:00: Orientation session for first-semester students in the Bachelor's programmes in Educational Science, Deutscher Saal (Building 7)
• 14:00–15:30: Orientation session for Bachelor's students in their 3rd or 5th semester, Deutscher Saal (Building 7)

Course Registration in Stud.IP

The course catalog is published, and registration for individual courses takes place, via the digital learning platform Stud.IP.

When searching for courses, please make sure that the current semester, Winter Semester 2026/27, is selected.

Bachelor's Programmes in Educational Science (180/90 CP)

You can find the courses for your degree programme in Stud.IP under:

Due to limited capacities in seminars, the initial allocation of places is carried out using a priority-based lottery procedure.

During the respective registration period, you select the seminars offered within a module by interest and rank them according to your preferences. In this way, you create a personal priority list of the courses you would like to attend.

At the end of each registration period, an algorithm allocates the available seminar places taking these priorities into account. If the number of interested students exceeds the number of available places in a course, places are allocated by lottery within the respective priority level.

Please provide a complete ranking of your preferred courses whenever possible. Your chances of receiving a particular seminar place do not increase if you only indicate a first choice. If you are initially not allocated a place in your first-choice seminar, you will remain on the waiting list and may subsequently be admitted if a place becomes available.

Bachelor's Registration Periods – Winter Semester 2026/27

Group 1 – Modules C1, C2, C3, D, D2, F2
21 September 2026, 09:00 to 24 September 2026, 23:59
(the lottery-based allocation will take place at this point)

Group 2 – Modules B2, E, G2, H/H2, K, I
25 September 2026, 09:00 to 29 September 2026, 23:59 (the lottery-based allocation will take place at this point)

Group 3 – First-semester modules A, B1, D1, G1, H1
1 October 2026, 09:00 to 5 October 2026, 23:59 (the lottery-based allocation will take place at this point)

It does not matter at what point during the respective registration period you submit your choices. You may modify your priorities until the end of the respective registration period.

Lectures are generally not subject to capacity restrictions.

Once the respective lottery procedure has been completed, you may register directly for courses in which places are still available. If you no longer require a seminar place that has already been allocated to you, please withdraw from the course so that the place can be made available to another student.

Independent registration and withdrawal in Stud.IP is possible until Saturday, 31 October 2026, at 23:59.

If you still need seminar places required for your studies after the registration periods have ended, please contact the Study Programme Management.

Master's Programme in Educational Science (120 CP)

Registration for courses in the Master's programme begins on

21 September 2026 at 09:00.

There is no priority-based lottery procedure in the Master's programme, as sufficient places are available in the courses.

Independent registration and withdrawal is possible until Saturday, 31 October 2026, at 23:59.

Course Timetable

Courses generally last 90 minutes and are scheduled in regular time slots between 08:00 and 20:00.

In consideration of students with care responsibilities, compulsory courses are scheduled between 08:00 and 16:00 wherever possible. Elective courses may be scheduled between 08:00 and 20:00.

Special Provision for Course Place Allocation in the Bachelor's Programmes in Educational Science (180/90 CP)

From the winter semester 2026/27 onwards, a special provision for taking particular needs into account when allocating course places will apply in the Bachelor's programmes in Educational Science (180/90 CP).

Under certain conditions, students with family responsibilities, health-related impairments, or disabilities may be given priority in the Stud.IP lottery procedure based on their priority level when places are allocated. The aim of this procedure is to facilitate the organisation of studies for students with particular support needs.

Requirements and Procedure

Priority consideration in the allocation of course places may be  requested on the basis of one of the following documented circumstances:

• physical or mental disability or chronic illness (proof: previously approved accommodation for disability),
• pregnancy that has already been reported to the BA/MA Educational Science Examinations Office (proof: pregnancy certificate),
• caring for children up to age 14 in one’s own household (proof: birth certificate + certificate of residence for the child),
• caring for or providing support to family members in need of care (proof: care certification).

Applications  may only be submitted within the specified application period. The  relevant supporting documentation and a declaration of consent to the processing of personal data must be submitted with the application.

Once your application has been successfully reviewed, you will receive a brief confirmation via email. In addition, an internal flag will be added to your Stud.IP profile so that you will be given priority in the automated lottery process. You must still register during the regular registration period and correctly prioritise your preferred courses.

Please submit all required documents in full and within the specified deadline to the Degree Programme Management Office. Late or incomplete applications cannot be considered.

Module Registration and Examination Organisation in Löwenportal

Examination administration and module registration are handled via Löwenportal.

Registration for modules in the winter semester 2026/27 is open from

28 September to 26 October 2026.

Please note that module registration and course registration are two separate steps:

• In Löwenportal, you register for the respective module.
• In Stud.IP, you register separately for the courses belonging to that module.

Registering for a module at the beginning of the semester is a mandatory prerequisite for registering for the corresponding module examination towards the end of the semester.

Löwenportal also allows you to register for and withdraw from modules and examinations, access certificates of enrolment and transcripts of records, view your registered modules and examinations, and manage other personal study-related matters.

Information and forms for registering Bachelor's and Master's theses, as well as further information on examination procedures, can be found on the Examination Office website.

Information and Communication Channels

Important information concerning your studies as well as course-specific messages from lecturers will primarily be sent via

• your university student email address firstname.lastname@student.uni-halle.de,
• and Stud.IP messaging.

Please make sure that you check both communication channels regularly.

If required, you can set up email forwarding for your university student email account via Webmail.

Stud.IP messages can also be forwarded to your university email address. In Stud.IP, go to “Settings” → “Messages” and select the option “Send a copy of received messages to my own email address”.
