Bachelor of Arts in Educational Science (90 credits)
Our 90-credit BA component course in Educational Science teaches fundamental principles of general education studies and a range of professional areas related to pedagogy, including social work, youth and community education/social pedagogy, and adult and continuing education. This broad-based component course also offers students a grounding in quantitative and qualitative research methods, alongside key principles relating to educational and pedagogical issues and approaches to educational thinking. The course, rounded off with a mandatory internship, aims to enable students to identify and independently tackle situations and issues from pedagogical practice on the basis of the knowledge and skills attained in their academic study. This is one component of a dual-subject course in which students take 90 credits in Educational Science and 90 in one further subject in the field of social or cultural sciences in order to attain a total of 180 credit points.
We hold our seminars and classes on the Faculty of Philosophy III campus (Franckesche Stiftungen), which is also the location of the Library for Educational Sciences „Franckeplatz“ and has its own student canteen. The University’s other humanities and social science departments and its central facilities are a short distance away.
Successful completion of the course qualifies graduates to forge careers in the field of educational and social work and to pursue further study in educational science at Master’s level.
